How to Communicate with Algorithms in 2025

Nowadays, algorithms have invaded just about every aspect of the human experience, from social media to AI art applications. Algorithms are complex code based creations that shouldn’t just be considered in terms of basic commands or options selection, but as systems. There is much more creative collaboration required to maximize these tools within the likes of Runway, MidJourney or any GPT model. The ability to formulate such communication is important for any user looking to exploit a technology and its greatest benefits. But how exactly do you “talk” to algorithms?

— Understand the Foundations

Let’s begin with how any tool functions at its core. All computer systems, now even AI bots such as ChatGPT, are made on structured logic. Most of these systems perform functions based on certain patterns, rules and large amounts of data. So the more you know how these technologies work, the better you will be when working with them.

For example, ChatGPT has launched several models, namely ChatGPT 4o and Preview O1. These models have different applications and limitations. For instance, Preview O1 is designed for deeper, more thoughtful tasks, and ChatGPT4-turbo is designed for quicker, shallower tasks. Understanding the distinctions between each of these versions makes it possible to select the one that is most suitable for a particular project.

Take generative AI tools such as MidJourney, for another example. This particular creator offered and imposed certain features on individual versions, including strengths and limitations: version 5 may be more appropriate for detailed textures, whereas version 6.1 may be more effective at simpler aspects of the image. As a result, this knowledge makes it easier to choose the proper version for a particular one of your projects without trial and error.

— It’s Not RANDOM

It is a widespread misconception to draw a comparison between a machine and AI or algorithm as people tend to do with a roll of a die, which is inaccurate. Certainly, a degree of randomness may exist but the outputs of the system depend on the input that’s provided. When creating artistic pieces, conducting a search, or developing an artificial intelligence algorithm, it is the inputs which largely stipulate the outputs.

When I prepared the music video I was looking for modern Polish folk vibes and tried the last version of Runway. I saw that if I changed even a few of the settings which had to do with the movement of the face, the images became noticeably better in terms of realism and fluidity. This did not happen without reason…
It was all due to careful optimization within the bounds of what the tool could do.

— Learn the Commands and Parameters

As always in all other cases, each tool must have its own commands and parameters or some guidelines to help produce finer outputs. These are the “words” of the metamodel which the algorithm can interpret. The more experiments you do and the more methods of manipulating these variables you learn, the more power you will have over what gets produced in the end.

Compared to writing a report about the boss or trying to remember your class’s dress code. You can control the tone, style and format of responses with ChatGPT – if you need a business email because a client is getting tired and frustrated, you can forever guide with “Write a formal email to client” or “Give me some ideas for a marketing campaign” and you’ll be able to get your point across. All of these commands you have available are most effective when used with the right intent. To improve efficiency, it’s necessary to claim that all helps in achieving more precise results.

— Know When to Use Each Tool

Each tool may have its advantages and disadvantages. While MidJourney is a good tool for coming up with new and unique images, there is also a possibility of needing a tool that animates these images such as Runway. Managing to know when it’s appropriate to change to these tools can save time and lead into achieving more refined outcomes.

When conducting visually based research, my approach was to design the core visuals using MidJourney and then transfer the images to Runway for animation. Every face each expression, every movement created during the final video was done so realistically that it was far more interesting to watch. However, I did observe that some of the layers of color were lost during the animations. This type of awareness is helpful in improving your strategy as you understand how to maximize the good parts of one approach, while also accepting its flaws.

— Intuition Plays a Role

Voice over in which algorithms are central is not only about the numbers. It is essential to connect your creativity and gut feelings. Via this tool integration, the more it is underway the more one understands what is right and wrong, even when one hasn’t seen the end result.

When working on a visual mood board, I felt the prompts being too abstract in MidJourney or concept alone were insufficient to get results and so I had to elaborate on them in a descriptive manner. It may seem odd, but experience and intuition are two of the factors that increase your ability to work with AI tools.

— Troubleshooting and Learning

There will be some problems with the algorithm, no matter how effective you are with your interaction. Learning the reasons for certain losses is, in its way, just as important as working out how one can be successful. Here, trial and error, research, and community engagement are helpful.

Let’s take a look at Runway, I began to figure out that some animations were surprisingly muted which is a constant factor on color layering techniques. Active involvement with user forums, as well as perusing developer’s blogs, I became knowledgeable about ways to bypass these limitations or improve the results in the following attempts.

Conclusion

" Working with algorithms is quite formidable as it can somehow be termed as an art in and of itself. It is a combination of skills, knowledge, and creativity. Knowing how various tools function, memorizing their proper commands and playing with their parameters helps in optimizing the work of AI and other algorithm-based platforms. You may be surprised, but the process is not completely random. The analysis can always be rather uniform and very human alike.
Let's admit that Communicating with algorithms is an art form in itself. It requires a combination of technical knowledge, creativity, and intuition. By understanding how different tools like ChatGPT 4o and Preview O1 operate, learning their specific commands, and experimenting with parameters, you can unlock the full potential of AI platforms. It’s not as random as you might think... With the right approach, the results can be both consistent and surprisingly human. "
